RHI Update

Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) tariffs for solid biomass have increased from April 1, 2012. RHI Tariffs will be reviewed annually while the RHI scheme lasts with changes made in line with the increase or decrease in the Retail Price Index (RPI).

Small commercial biomass

The Tier 1 rate which applies to biomass boilers up to 200kW has increased from 7.9p to 8.3p.

Medium commercial biomass

The Tier 1 rate for 200kW to 1000 kW has increased from 4.9p to 5.1p.

The increases in RHI tariffs reflect an RPI increase of 4.8% during the 2011/2012 financial year.

The first phase of the RHI is targeted at commercial, industrial and public sector projects as the heating of these organisations accounts for 38% of the UK’s carbon dioxide emissions. Tariffs will be paid to the owner of eligible non-domestic biomass installation. Heat must be metered quarterly.
