Marriot International installs Andrews Water Heaters & Remeha Gas boilers

Marriott International

The nine-storey Marriott International hotel, which operates under the Moxy and Residence Inn brands, is part of a wider mixed-use regeneration scheme delivered by Morgan Sindall Construction for Slough Urban Renewal (SUR).

Two Andrews Water Heaters SUPAflo EVO SF64 water heaters, two 10-bar GL-10 buffer vessels, and two Remeha Gas 220 Ace 300 boilers were selected by Morgan Sindall for their high performance and reliability to meet the hotel’s heating and hot requirements.

The new hotels deliver both aesthetically and environmentally. The Moxy, which provides 152 luxury bedrooms, follows a unique design theme with Thunderbirds graphics in honour of the vintage series filmed in the town by its creator Gerry Anderson. The Residence Inn’s 92 suites, in contrast, are designed with longer-staying guests in mind and boast fantastic views of the London skyline.

The building has been awarded a BREEAM rating of ‘Very Good’, reflecting the energy efficiency of the building, how sustainably it was built and how well it will respond to user needs. This has been cleverly achieved by combining renewable and high-efficiency technologies and is particularly impressive given that energy consumption in hotels is traditionally high.

Contributing to the low carbon footprint of the development are the photo-voltaic (PV) solar panels installed on the roof of the building that generate renewable electricity for use within the hotels.

Natural ventilation heat recycling units (NVHRs) provide a low-energy solution to maintaining optimum temperatures within the building. Working alongside the NVHRs to ensure reliable space heating at all times are two compact Remeha Gas 220 Ace 300 boilers, chosen for their high efficiencies, renowned reliability and flexible design.

With 244 luxury bedrooms in total across the two hotels, and a restaurant and bar in each, achieving an energy-efficient solution to satisfy the high hot water demand at the hotels was critical. Two SUPAflo EVO direct-fired condensing water heaters, were selected as the best solution for the project. Designed specifically for high demand environments, these units can produce a continuous supply of hot water at a superior recovery rate of 4,900 litres an hour. They are complemented by two Andrews Water Heaters 780-litre glass-lined buffer vessels, to ensure that the system will meet the high domestic hot water demand during periods of peak demand and high occupancy.

The project M&E contractors were Drayton Beaumont Services.

Steven Vaux, Senior Project Manager at Morgan Sindall Construction, said:

“We were proud to deliver this fantastic new development two months ahead of schedule, during the logistically challenging period of COVID-19 restrictions. This was due in part to the great relationship across the project team, including with our suppliers Baxi Heating.”

Neville Small, Key Accounts Director at Baxi Heating, said:

“We are delighted to have played a part in this impressive new venture, supplying the Morgan Sindall Construction project team with our best-in-class products to ensure reliable, energy efficient heating and hot water services at the new hotels.”

The new development is a joint venture between Slough Borough Council and national urban regenerator Muse Developments. The Moxy and Residence Inn hotels are managed by Cycas Hospitality, the award-winning hotel management comp.
