The ErP Directive is designed to reduce carbon emissions across Europe. Since 2015, ErP applies to domestic and commercial heating products. It covers electrical powered products, boilers, water heaters and renewable technologies.
This means that with ErP, any non-condensing boilers (up to 400kW) will be phased out of the industry - including some atmospheric and permanent pilot products.
From September 2018, NOx emissions will also be reduced.
So what does this mean in practice? For space heaters (lot 1), if we calculate gross seasonal efficiency using Part L Building Regulations formulae, the equivalent season efficiency is 92.5% (without differentiation between new and existing buildings). This means small to medium sized projects will need a condensing boiler solution and in some cases a full system replacement in order to comply.
We have future proofed our condensing boiler technology - relevant products are ErP compliant and you can download any labels from our literature library. They are also low NOx and we're continuing to invest in research and development to continue to make our products more energy efficient. Any older technology is also slowly being phased out.
