Part of the Aspire spinal injuries charity, this is Europe’s first leisure centre for disabled and non-disabled people. Maintaining the water temperature in the 25-metre swimming pool between 30 to 32⁰C is a key requirement for the safety and comfort of the users. The boilers also provide hot water for showers and feed the underfloor heating.
Contractors PHD Mechanical recommended replacing the nine failing boilers in the pool-side plant with seven Quinta Pro 115 boilers in cascade to achieve the required reliability and high performance.
The heating and hot water service was maintained throughout. New flueing, a new building energy management system and upgraded controls completed the project.
Director Scott Morgan at PHD Mechanical explained: “Installing multiple Quinta Pro boilers in cascade not only overcame the space issue in the restricted plant room, but enabled accurate matching of the heat output demand. Importantly, it also guaranteed greater reliability.”
Brian Carlin, Chief Executive Officer of Aspire Leisure Centre, said: “We’re delighted to report that since the refurbishment, the pool has remained at the correct temperature, with plenty of water for hot showers. Even more impressive is the energy we have saved since installing the Remeha boilers, which equates to £7,000 in the last six months alone.”
